UXPA UK August 2021 – The Practice of UX

26
Aug
2021

18:30 - 20:00

Online Event - Zoom

As the old saying goes, “practice makes perfect”, right? UX is an ever changing and challenging profession. Practitioners need to adapt and continue to develop their practice to embrace challenges and develop new skills. As the very profession of UX is in constant flux, what do we need to consider as professionals and can we ever really keep pace with change?

Our two talks will examine the practice of UX and how it is evolving. We will look at how those working in UX can develop both personally and professionally and explore the skills and perspectives that UX professionals need to thrive. Each session will include the opportunity for audience questions.

Schedule:

All times are London, GMT. Timezone converter.

Stoicism, Resilience, and Design

Speaker

The reality that we live in will test us: not always, but at some point. How is it that some people are able to survive and, in some cases, thrive during these difficult times while others don’t? How do people come back from challenges and learn to develop a mindset that enables growth? How do we develop the non-technical skills that enable us to become the best practitioners we can be?

In this talk, Joe will introduce stoicism as a concept and aims to put personal and professional development into that framework. Building on that, he will explore resilience from both a human and a corporate perspective, so that we can better understand how to build the skills that help us thrive as designers and as people.

Back to the future – being a user researcher in the past, present & future

Speaker

This talk will explore the role of the user researcher in the past, present and future.

Starting in the late 1990s, the talk will cover the early days of dotcom boom, how our tools, methods, ways of working – and even the name of our role – have evolved, up to the most recent changes during the pandemic, and how the future could look like.
