The UXPA UK committee is made up of enthusiastic volunteers from the community. Similar to many other organisations we have faced challenges dealing with and adapting to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Joining the committee gives you the opportunity to help shape the local and national UX community, looks great on your CV and can be an incredibly rewarding experience. We are currently recruiting for:

Commitment for Committee members:

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, most UXPA UK activities are being conducted remotely. While each role has specific duties, general responsibilities include:

  • Attend a minimum of 6 monthly committee meetings a year (currently 1st Wednesday of month in the evening).
  • If unable to attend a meeting in person, a written role update should be provided.
  • Lead curation of 1 to 2 events per year. This includes deciding the theme and format for regular monthly and securing speakers.
  • Be available to attend and support monthly in-person events when they resume.
  • You should allow about 10-12 hours per month for UXPA UK activities.
  • Appointments are typically for 2 years, but this can be reviewed after 12 months. We’re flexible!

All roles require some initiative. You should bring your own ideas on how to best fulfil your role best with suggestions from the committee and the community.

As a volunteer organisation we understand the need to work flexibly around other commitments. Peer support is available from committee members.

Secretary

The position of Secretary has the potential to allow the post-holder to be formally appointed to the Executive Committee of UXPA UK and be listed as a Director with Companies House. This makes it suitable for an applicant interested in gaining experience of being on the board of a non-profit organisation. The post can also be held by an individual who would prefer not to have this commitment.

  • The Secretary should be familiar with the UXPA UK constitution and ensure that committee processes and activities follow required procedures.
  • Manage membership queries and issues using the UXPA UK JoinIt membership management system.
  • Manage committee documentation, activities and meetings (e.g. invites and meetings minutes).
  • Manage the formation and publication of the Annual Report.
  • Manage the members Slack channel.

Communications Officer

  • Write and send the monthly newsletter with a focus on ensuring communication regarding UXPA UK events is complete and accurate.
  • Address any communication-related enquirers, such as requests to publicise UX events.
  • Periodically update and maintain content on other social media channels (e.g.: YouTube).
  • Collect and collate newsworthy items for the UX community (with the support of all committee members, and volunteers).
  • Assist in monitoring and manage the @UXPAUK Twitter account.

Industry Liaison Officer (2 positions)

  • Manage UXPA UK sponsorship arrangements and seek out further opportunities.
  • Seek out collaboration opportunities and build relationships with industry partners where we can negotiate discounts for UXPA UK members for goods and services.
  • Seek out collaboration opportunities and build relationships with local chapters of national and international sister organisations (e.g. IxDA, London Accessibility Meetup).
  • Identify and communicate with potential speakers or workshop facilitators for our regular monthly events from the commercial sector.

While we suggest one position would focus on commercial opportunities and the other on identifying event contributors, this is at the discretion of the applicant(s).

Mentoring Support Officer

  • Work collaboratively with the Mentoring Manager to ensure the UXPA UK mentoring scheme runs effectively and investigate ways it can be enhanced for the benefit of UXPA UK members.
  • Take responsibility for responding to mentoring scheme queries in a timely manner.
  • Match mentees with mentors, perform introductions and periodically check on the status of mentoring arrangement.
  • Maintain and update the list of mentors on the UXPA UK website.
  • Maintain a record of communication with mentees and mentors.
